<「月おもしろし」とて凡河内躬恒(ｵﾎｼｶﾌﾁﾉﾐﾂﾈ)がまうできたりけるによめる >
かつ見れど うとくもあるかな 月影の いたらぬ里も あらじと思へば

< Composed when Ōshikōchi Mitsune visited me saying, ‘The moon looks good.’ >
So, it looks,
But ungraceful on the other.
As there is no place, it appears,
The moonlight does not reach whatever,
So you may visit whereve.

< 「月が趣がある」といって凡河内躬恒が訪ねてきたときに詠んだ歌 >
そのように見える一方で、疎ましくもあるのですよ。月影がとどかない里はないことを思えば(あなたはどこにも訪ねていくのでしょうからの含意)。
(Appreciation)
The moon looks good on the one hand, but it looks ungraceful on the other. As there is no place where the moonlight does not reach, you may visit wherever you like.
