わたの原 漕(こ)ぎ出(い)でて 見れば 久方(ひさかた)の 雲居(くもゐ)にまがふ 沖(おき)つ白波(しらなみ)

大海原に舟を漕ぎ出して眺めわたすと、雲とみがまうばかりに沖の白波が立っているのだ。
As I row out to the open sea,
And look around out there,
I can vividly see
The waves as white as the clouds are
Rising tall and high as ever.
