五月闇(さつきやみ) みじかき夜半(よは)の うたた寝に 花橘(はなたちばな)の 袖(そで)に涼しき

(要旨) 五月闇(梅雨の頃の深夜)の短い夜にうたた寝していると、花橘の香りが袖のあたりに涼し気に漂っているのを感じるのだ
In the dark yet shortening night in the rainy season, while drowsing,
I feel the odor of Tachibana, citrus flowers, through my sleeves coolly drifting.
